FOUNDER'S LOG 003: Puzzle Pieces

FOUNDER'S LOG 003: Puzzle Pieces

I write this to remember the things which have happened, so that I may plan the things which have not - to the best of my ability.

This happy puzzle is slowly coming together - it seems I've found all the edge and corner pieces, and the mid-section is starting to take shape.

So, what’s been going on?

🤷

As you might have noticed,  we’re putting in work behind the scenes. If Happy Pot was a house under refurbishment, we'd be checking for leaks and chasing the contractors right about now.

To truly go back to the drawing board and rethink the pot as you know it, we took down all of last season’s products from the store and stopped taking online orders in February. We’ve closed a few good corporate orders that have helped keep the lights on, but the day-to-day lately has been the meticulous planning of the relaunch 💭

Surrounded by the silence of a store with no sales, we’ve had a lot of time to think about where we are, where we’re going, and how we’re going to get there. If the goal is Happy Pot as far and wide as possible, the first step is perfecting the pot

In an attempt to play at my strengths and get better at product design, I’ve been getting freaky with Fusion - the 3D-design software responsible for every happy product we’ve ever made. In order to expedite the design of the new product line and get better at designing for 3D-printing, I’ve asked my good friend Jean to help bring our ideas to life, and tutor me along the way.

With more than a dozen new concepts in hand, a handful of product line extensions planned,  the beauty of 3D-printing and the collective efforts of our team and partners, the new and improved Happy Pot experience is well under way.

New features on the new pots means a new website experience that takes customization to the next level, and highlights all the little (and not so little) things that make Happy Pot so happy. New landing pages, a sexy 3D-customizer, and product photos so sharp they’ll poke your eye out.

Creating the perfect product experience is one thing, but getting eyes on it and making sure it sells is a totally different beast. In parallel to perfecting the pot and other planting paraphernalia, we’re making sure we’ve got the marketing and distribution to take Happy Pot to new heights.

The struggle, as per usual, is focus. When there’s so many things that must get done, all of them important in their own regard, how can you be sure that the next step is the right one? As a wise man once said, “if everything is important, then nothing is.

So, what is time, money and effort well spent, and what is just diverting attention away from the master plan? While I’d love to spend these next few weeks designing next winter’s Happy Hoodies or a pirate ship plant pot, Happy Pot's next steps are clear:

  • Design, test, and launch the new and improved range of Happy Pots
  • Restyle and restructure our website to be more consumer-centric and conversion-friendly
  • Bring on a marketing partner to streamline our outreach and get more eyes on the brand
  • Launch new and improved Shopify store and set up other online marketplaces like Etsy & Amazon
  • Set up physical retail partnerships in Malta, the Netherlands and another European country
  • Go viral on TikTok
  • Gift Sydney Sweeney a Happy Pot

Relaunch date coming soon.

Watch this space, and as always, have a happy day.
